There are some cities you travel to and it becomes more about the people and the hostel rather than the city itself. This is exactly what happened when I went to Santiago, Chile.
I stayed at La Chimba Hostel in Barrio Bellavista and immediately fell in love. The atmosphere was amazing and the staff was highly entertaining and engaging. I was walking distance to the metro and to copious amounts of bars, clubs and restaurants. On my first night I met two amazing Aussie guys and a guy from India that brought the party to you at any time of the day. On the second night two wonderful Irish girls checked in that became my travel partners for the next 10 days. There was no stopping this epic combo from having a great time!
I was also able to meet up with a fellow traveler I had met in Rio over New Years Eve for a quick lunch. It’s always nice to see a friendly face in a new city.
And to top it off, my friend from high school who I have met up with in Buenos Aires and Rio just happened to move to Santiago and I was able to celebrate his birthday with him.
Santiago has a lot of potential to be a great city but it doesn’t quite have an identity like Buenos Aires does. You really feel like you could be walking almost anywhere in the world. However, I’m glad I was able to experience this city in Chile even just for a little bit.
